NAGPUR: Students appearing in an examination conducted by Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE) recently were robbed of their belongings from the exam centre.
At least five first year students of animation at Mahatma Phule Institute of Technology were allotted Vasantdada Polytechnic College in Nandanvan as centre for their first semester exam.

The centre in-charge had told the students to keep their bags outside the room.
After the exam, the students were shocked to see their belongings missing. The worried students approached Vasantdada Polytechnic principal RC Wadhbhude. He, however, claimed that their college was incapable of handling such a big number of candidates due to limited infrastructure.
“We concentrate more on getting students into the exam centre on time, rather than taking care of their belongings. As per the MSBTE directives, students are informed not to carry anything into the premises. Though I know it is not possible practically to come without bags,” he said.
To avoid a repeat of such incidents, the principal added that the college will seek permission from MSBTE to set up a counter where bags can be deposited on a token system, like in supermarkets.
One of the students, Priyanka Wankhede, later registered a complaint at Nandanvan police station that her valuables like ATM card, mobile phone and bank passbook kept in the bag had gone missing.
Senior PI of Nandanvan police station Kishor Nagrale expressed inability to trace the bags, saying that tracking is possible only if the SIM card was in use.
